About the Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities. 

It is open to girls and young women aged 14-24 (or Year 9 at school and turning 14). D of E fits closely with the Queen’s Guide Award.

There are three progressive levels of the award – Bronze, Silver and Gold – that vary in length and commitment.

Bronze Award

  1. For those aged 14 and over, or aged 13 and in Year 9.
  2. You will complete sections in Volunteering, Skills and Physical and take part in an Expedition.
  3. It takes at least 6 months to complete.

Silver Award

  1. For those aged 15 and over, or aged 14 and in Year 10.
  2. You will complete sections in Volunteering, Skills and Physical and take part in an Expedition.
  3. It takes at least 12 months to complete as a direct entrant (those who have not completed their Bronze award).

Gold Award

  1. For those aged 16 to 23 ½ (or 24 if you have done your Silver award).
  2. You will complete sections in Volunteering, Skills and Physical and take part in an Expedition and a Residential.
  3. It takes at least 18 months to complete as a direct entrant (those who have not completed their Silver award).
