Young Members - Programme

The programme covers 6 themes and girls are given opportunities to complete a range of activities linked to each theme. They are also encouraged to complete interest badges at home. The theme awards build up to allow girls to achieve their Bronze, Silver and Gold Section Awards.

Rainbows – 4-7 years

Rainbows are our youngest members and they follow an exciting programme to learn and grow through having fun, learning new skills and going on adventures.

They take part in weekly meetings as well as activities ranging from learning life skills, getting in touch with nature, doing arts and crafts or playing games with friends.

Rainbows like to start earning interest badges including Recycling and Construction to Storytelling and Animal Lover.

Brownies – 7-10 years

Brownies get the opportunity to continue to challenge themselves and have fun.

They meet weekly to learn new hobbies, get creative, develop skills and have outdoor adventures.

They can also get the chance to go on sleepovers and day trips.

Brownies continue their badge journey, gaining a range of interest badges from Aviation and Speaking Out to Baking and Mindfulness.

Guides – 10-14 years

Guides continue with adventures and developing new skills whilst also making change.

They meet weekly but also have the chance to go on camps and holidays and maybe even travel abroad.

They help to choose the activities they do in meetings and work together and lead in small groups (Patrols).

Guides badges include Whittling, Photography and Campaigning.

Rangers – 14-18 years

Rangers are encouraged to take more of a leadership role and find new challenges.

They continue to have adventures, learn life skills and make friends for life.

They also have the chance, if they choose, to gain further awards, travel the world and take on leadership roles within Girlguiding.

Rangers may also choose to become Young Leaders, Peer Educators or work towards their Queen’s Guide Award or Duke of Edinburgh Award.
